On Thursday 31st July 2025, E16 Health – The Practice Albert Road held a successful Diabetes Awareness and Management Event, welcoming around 35 patients from the local community, including a few non-registered individuals. The event took place from 14:30 to 16:30 and provided a valuable opportunity for patients to access reliable information, engage with clinical staff, and take proactive steps in managing or understanding diabetes.
Diabetes continues to be one of the most common long-term health conditions affecting patients across the UK. Many people struggle with managing the condition effectively or remain undiagnosed. Events like this are essential in improving health outcomes, encouraging early diagnosis, and helping to tackle health inequalities by reaching individuals who may not otherwise access regular care or advice.
At E16, we believe that empowering patients with the right knowledge and support can make a significant difference in how they manage their health.
The session was led by our Clinical Pharmacist, Mr. Faizan Ali, who delivered an informative and engaging presentation. Dr. Werner Leber, the practice’s Clinical Lead, was also present to support the event. Additional support was provided by practice pharmacists Ms. Anoushka and Ms. Fazila, who played a key role in facilitating the session and engaging with patients throughout. The presentation covered key areas of diabetes management, including:
Patients were encouraged to ask questions during and after the presentation, creating an open and supportive environment for discussion. One patient commented: “This is a good event. We are used to reading information on the internet, and this gave us the opportunity to obtain information and ask questions to the clinician.”
Another said: “It was good to observe questions raised by other patients and gain knowledge.”
As part of the event, a glucose testing station was set up, allowing patients to check their blood sugar levels on-site. This hands-on aspect helped reinforce the importance of regular monitoring and empowered patients to follow up on their annual diabetes check-ups, including HbA1c blood tests and retinal screening.
In addition, some non-registered individuals attended after hearing about the event and were able to seek advice for symptoms they were experiencing – potentially leading to early detection of undiagnosed diabetes.
We are proud of the positive impact this event had on our patients and the wider community. Events like this are more than just information sessions – they are opportunities to build trust, reduce disparities in healthcare access, and help individuals take meaningful steps toward better health.
E16 Health is committed to continuing this work through similar events in the future. Whether you’re living with a long-term condition or simply want to understand your health better, we encourage you to take part.
We hold fortnightly coffee mornings at the practice from 10:00 –11:00 AM, offering a relaxed and friendly space for patients to connect with each other and with staff. Looking ahead, we are planning to introduce group walks as part of our commitment to encouraging physical activity and social wellbeing.
Group walks not only support better physical health, especially for patients managing long-term conditions like diabetes or hypertension, but also promote mental wellbeing through social interaction, routine, and time spent outdoors. These activities are a simple yet effective way to reduce isolation, improve mood, and help patients stay active together.
Together, we can create a healthier, more informed community.
