On 25th July 2024, E16 Health hosted an Obesity Awareness Event at our Pontoon Dock site to raise awareness to about the risks associated with obesity and promote healthy lifestyle choices. The event was part of the NHS’s ongoing commitment to improving public health and reducing the prevalence of obesity in the UK.
Prior to the event, posters and flyers were distributed around the surgeries and handed to patients to increase awareness of the event and the various services immediately available to them. Many patients were also notified of the event via SMS. Those who attended this fun, social and informative event had access to blood pressure checks via our friendly HCA Carlene, waist measurements conducted by Health and Wellbeing Coach Jordan, and follow up appointments if any concerns were raised.
Community organisations that partner with us attended as well, including Xyla Health, Better, and Nutrition Kitchen. They offered one-to-one discussions with patients about their challenges they face regarding obesity and other related issues. These organisations provided our patients with practical tools and knowledge to combat obesity and emphasized the importance of early intervention and the role of diet and exercise in preventing obesity. Nutrition Kitchen, for example, showed patients how to prepare healthy salads and snacks. We held the event during our core practice hours and were pleased to have this additional offering to our patients, successfully raising awareness about the dangers of obesity and encouraging patients to take steps toward healthier living while increasing patient engagement with the practice. The NHS will continue to support these efforts through ongoing community programs and resources available to the public.
E16 Health remains dedicated to combating obesity and will continue to offer support and resources to help patients make healthier lifestyle choices.
The success of this event is a testament to the community’s willingness to engage and act against obesity and change lifestyles in their community for the better. E16 Health will look to host more events on a wide range of topics and issues for the betterment of the community.
