On 30 October 2025, E16 Health hosted a Prostate Cancer Awareness Event at Pontoon Dock, aimed at improving awareness, supporting informed screening decisions, and promoting early detection of prostate cancer. The session featured guest speaker Pete, who provided evidence-based information on prostate cancer risk factors, screening options, lifestyle considerations, and quality-of-life issues.
The event was attended by 43 patients and community members, providing a valuable opportunity for patient education, discussion, and engagement with clinicians. PSA blood tests were offered on-site, with 23 patients tested and follow-up appointments arranged for others. Four abnormal results were identified, leading to two-week-wait referrals, ensuring timely assessment and treatment.
Patients gave positive feedback, with some joining the Patient Participation Group (PPG) to support future events. Several attendees noted that they would have benefited from a handout of the presentation. The practice shared information that is accessible on the NHS website and over the phone and offered to print materials for those who preferred a hard copy.
Events like this emphasise the importance of early detection, timely referrals, and patient education, helping individuals make informed healthcare decisions. The initiative also benefits the practice by strengthening community relationships, promoting trust, supporting proactive care, and reducing health inequalities.
