During the event, the practice was able to vaccinate three children and perform one cervical smear test. Additionally, another patient was scheduled for a smear test in two months. A friend of one of our existing patients attended the event and expressed interest in having a cervical smear done, despite not having a GP. This patient was provided with an application form to register with the surgery and will be able to undergo the smear test once registered.
E16 Health organised another event at Albert Road Surgery on Thursday, 12th December 2024, from 14:00 to 16:30, focusing on childhood immunisation and cervical smear screening. This event served several important purposes, including raising awareness, improving access, encouraging participation, streamlining services, building trust, reducing health disparities, promoting preventative healthcare, and ultimately improving health outcomes. It provided an opportunity to educate the community about the importance of timely immunisations and regular screenings, increase accessibility for those who may face barriers to care, and foster a supportive and familiar environment that encourages individuals to take proactive steps in safeguarding their health.
In preparation for the event, the practice distributed flyers and handed them to patients to increase awareness. Patients were also notified of the event via text messages. Nurses were arranged to be on standby to vaccinate or carry out cervical smears should patients show interest.
The event was attended by children and their parents, and we were able to administer several immunisations and smears during the event following educational conversations with patients. During the event, the practice nurses, practice managers, social prescriber, and health visitors were present to support, answer questions, and educate patients on the importance of safeguarding their health. Refreshments, tattoo stickers, and goodie bags were given out, along with informational leaflets.
